Thank you, Enmarket Arena.

You changed Savannah.

5 years ago, if you wanted to see a major concert, you got in the car. Atlanta. Jacksonville. Maybe Charleston. You sat in traffic, fought parking garages, and eventually found your seat somewhere inside a massive building that never felt connected to where you lived.

Then you showed up in Savannah.

And suddenly the Eagles were here. Sting was here. Mumford & Sons. Phish. Ludacris. Billy Strings. Nate Bargatze. Ella Langley. Acts that once skipped right over Savannah started putting us on the routing map. Not because we became a different city, but because you came.

What I didn’t expect was how much I would enjoy it. I had mostly given up on arena concerts. They had become too big, too distant, too disconnected. The productions kept getting larger while the experience somehow felt smaller. But Enmarket Arena found a balance I didn’t think was possible. You get the giant screens, the massive sound, the full-scale production artists bring to the country’s biggest venues, but with you, it all somehow still feels intimate.

And then there’s my favorite part of the night. The ride home. The concert ends. The crowd pours into the parking lot. And before I know it, I’m back under Savannah’s live oak canopy, winding through the Spanish Moss. One minute I’m watching a world-famous artist perform in front of thousands of people, next thing you know, I’m home. My ears still buzzing from the show and the cheers, next thing you know I’m in the peace of our historic city.

Lately I’ve started asking the people sitting next to me where they’re from. Charleston. Atlanta. Jacksonville. Hilton Head. Sometimes farther away. They’re making the trip to Savannah for concerts. Think about that for a second. Not long ago, people weren’t traveling here because of our live music scene. Today they are.

You made that happen.

Savannah’s entertainment culture has grown because of a lot of people, venues, promoters, artists, and fans. But you became the anchor. The proof that Savannah could support major touring acts. The proof that this city belonged in conversations it had never been part of before.

You didn’t just bring concerts. You changed expectations.

You made it possible for Savannah residents to see world-class entertainment without leaving town. You gave artists a reason to stop here. You gave visitors another reason to spend a weekend here. And you helped transform Savannah from a city people passed through into a city people seek out.

That’s a remarkable thing. The city is better because you’re here, and for this I would like to say, ‘Thank you!’
