I never watch the news.\u201dA pause. \u201cAnd then people start sending me pictures, and I\u2019m like, how that happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">The fire tore through Strangebird, a place that never tried to be anything other than itself, and somehow became essential because of it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">At first, it did not feel real.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cI thought that was like a little fire or something,\u201d Felipe says. \u201cBut when I saw it, I\u2019m like\u2026how that happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/savannahmadesimple.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/strangebird-returns-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">There is one of kind of detail that defines him. Not just cooking. Caring.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">FARM Hospitality&#8217;s Chef Brandon Carter saw it immediately, long before any menu mattered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cHe came in and set up his station,\u201d Brandon says. \u201cEverything was perfect. Towels lined up, knives laid out, everything intentional. I was like, all right, this guy\u2019s special. He cares in a way most people don\u2019t even have a concept of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">That care would end up carrying more than just a kitchen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">When Strangebird went down, the question became what happens to everyone inside it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">The answer, quietly, was everyth<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cWe homed everybody that wanted to be re\u2013homed,\u201d Brandon says.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">For Felipe, that meant landing at FARM, stepping into a different kitchen, a different rhythm, but not a different feeling.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cI feel like FARM for me is like a really good family,\u201d he says. \u201cEverybody. Good energy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">It is easy to talk about resilience after the fact. It is harder to recognize what it actually looks like in real time. It looks like kitchens shifting. Teams adjusting. People showing up for each other without making a speech about it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">It looks like a restaurant group deciding no one gets left behind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">There was also another question hanging over everything.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Does this place come back?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cI mean, we don\u2019t own the building, SCAD does\u201d Brandon says. \u201cSo we were somewhat at the mercy of what they wanted to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">That meant waiting. Watching. Hoping.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Then slowly, it became clear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cThey got to work getting it rebuilt fairly quickly,\u201d he says. \u201cThen it was just a question of how long it was going to take.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Thirteen months later, the answer is standing in front of you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Open doors. Full room. Back to life.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/savannahmadesimple.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/strangebird-food.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cSuper, super good,\u201d Felipe says about that first day back. \u201cBecause everybody was asking, \u2018When you guys open?\u2019 And then when it happens, you\u2019re like, okay, we got to be ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Ready is relative. Because when a place disappears for that long, it does not come back quietly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">It comes back packed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cWe knew we were going to be busy,\u201d he says. \u201cWe had to have a plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">What they did not do was reinvent the place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">That part matters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cPeople have an expectation for Strangebird,\u201d Brandon says. \u201cEverybody has their favorite things. We didn\u2019t want to change that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Instead, they did something smarter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">They respected it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cWe just added a couple enhancements,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Which, in Strangebird fashion, turns into something like a conversation mid service about tacos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cHe just made one for me in the back,\u201d Brandon says. \u201cChorizo, cotija, red onion, little avocado. I think I like it better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">That is how this place works. Not a corporate rollout. Not a rebrand. Just a group of people who care enough to keep pushing, even when they do not have to.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">That idea of care keeps coming up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0; padding:0\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad_width1\">\n<div class=\"fl-lt ad_width2\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align:left; font-weight:bold\">\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re cooking an eighty dollar steak or a five dollar taco,\u201d Brandon says. \u201cThe care is the defining factor.\u201d<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">You feel that when you sit down here.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">And you feel something else too. Something Savannah does not always get right, but when it does, it hits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cFelipe\u2019s energy, it infects everybody in the room,\u201d Brandon says. \u201cThey don\u2019t make them like that anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">That is what Strangebird always was. Not just a menu. A feeling.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">And when it was gone, people noticed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"fl-lt ad_width2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/savannahmadesimple.com\/Magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/strangebird-chef.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cI think the fire and being closed strengthened everything,\u201d Brandon says. \u201cThe response from people coming back, it confirms how special this place is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Then he says something that lands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cIn our group, Strangebird is everybody\u2019s favorite restaurant. More than the others. This is where we eat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">That is not branding. That is truth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Before we wrap, there is one more thing he wants to say.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">A thank you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u201cTo the fire department, for saving this thing before it became ashes,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd to SCAD for getting us back in here as fast as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">That part matters too. Because in a city that talks a lot, this is a moment where people actually showed up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">And now, the room is full again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Drinks are flowing. Tacos are being debated.
